Course Outline: This seminar will explore a wide range of critiques of legal education as it is offered in American law schools today. A number of law review articles and two book-length critiques of the topic will be reviewed. Students will be required to develop a paper topic discussing some aspect of legal education and how it might be improved, and present that paper to the class. The course is likely to be particularly appealing to students who are not entirely satisfied with the legal education that they have received.

DAY 1: Review Robert P. Schuwerk, The Law Professor as Fiduciary: What Duties Do We Owe Our Students, 45 S. TEX. L. REV. 753 (2004). Prepare a paper of at least two to three double-spaced typewritten pages reacting to that article, in which you describe what you consider to be the most accurate and most inaccurate aspects of the piece, as well as the constructive and most destructive aspects of your own experience with law school to date.
DAY 2: Prepare a short paper of at least two to three double-spaced typewritten pages in which you describe your own emotional / psychological reaction to law school at (a) one week, (b) one month, (c) just prior to your first set of finals, (d) after receiving your first set of grades, (e) at the end of your first year, (f) if applicable, at the end of your second year, and (g) if different from (e) or (f) above, your reaction to it today.
These papers should be prepared prior to the day for which they are assigned, brought to class with you, and turned in at the end of the period.
