On behalf of the University of Houston Law Center student body, the Student Bar Association expresses its sincerest gratitude for the many messages and e-mails we have received from law schools around the country offering assistance. The outpouring of support from our fellow law students nation-wide is overwhelming.
Many have inquired about the needs of our students. Administration distributed a survey in order to ascertain those needs. While many have been forced out of their homes, it appears the biggest burden has been the loss of cars. The Law Center is working to put together a Harvey Student Relief Fund that will be distributed amongst students who were impacted by the storm.
Textbook distributors have already offered to replace textbooks lost in floodwaters for free. One of our organizations is in the process of setting up a donation drive at the law center. If you would like to help the law students directly, a monetary donation to the Harvey Student Relief Fund is the most effective support you can provide at this time. Follow the below instructions to donate online:
Select school, unit, or program: UH Law Center
Select a designation: Law Fund-LAW AFRA
Enter amount: _____
Click "Add Gift"
Special Instructions: Harvey Student Relief Fund for law students.
You can also mail checks or money orders, made out to University of Houston Law Foundation, with a note indicating "SBA-Harvey Student Relief Fund":

If you would like to assist the Houston Community in general, please consider making a monetary donation to the Houston Food Bank, where UHLC incoming 1Ls volunteer every year: http://www.houstonfoodbank.org/get-involved/harvey-disaster-relief/
There are many charities and organizations in Houston accepting physical supply donations, but their needs change daily. We recommend contacting organizations directly to find out what the community needs before sending anything.
Your friendship and assistance in this time of crisis is greatly appreciated. Thank you all.
