Hispanic Law Students Association

About Us

HLSA was originally founded as the Chicano Law Students Association (CLSA) in the fall of 1970 by five Chicano students, including Fifth Circuit Judge Pete Benavides.  A few years ago, the members voted to change the name of the organization to the Hispanic Law Students Association to reflect the diversity within our organization and the Law Center.  Since its inception, HLSA has provided a support network for its members and has worked hard to increase diversity in the Law Center through active participation in recruitment and admissions.
