May 24, 2012 – Alumni of the University of Houston Law Center were reminded of the many successful events staged during the past school year and promised even more to come, during the annual meeting of the Law Alumni Association Wednesday evening.
Bill Jackson, beginning the second year of his term as president, highlighted a number of the year’s fun and rewarding alumni functions from football tailgating and campus tree planting to the fundraising gala and ongoing interaction with students in the classroom. He noted plans are under way for several class reunions in October and pointed out that alumni financial support to the unrestricted Law Fund is higher than ever.
Dean Raymond T. Nimmer told the gathering at the downtown Coronado Club about several international developments, including a new dual degree J.D. program with the University of Calgary, and the hiring of new faculty members and five energy scholars.
Bill Maynard ’74, president of the Law Foundation, introduced a new video – A Case for Excellence – produced by UHLC and Houston public television. The nine-minute piece presents a broad overview of the Law Center from its extensive curriculum and internationally recognized faculty, to its top-ranked specialty programs, renowned research centers and institutes, nationally known clinics and new global initiatives.
