Feb. 8, 2013 – University of Houston Law Center Professor Michael A. Olivas has been selected as this month's Classical 91.7 (KUHA-FM)/Arte Público Press Author of the Month. He was interviewed regarding his new book, In Defense of My People: Alonso S. Perales and the Development of Mexican-American Public Intellectuals.
The book is a compilation of essays dealing with the work of Alonso S. Perales, a Mexican-American legal trailblazer, civil rights activist, and co-founder in 1929 of the League of United Latin American Citizens. Olivas edited and wrote the introduction and a chapter for the publication. Scholars from the U.S. and Mexico contributed to the project.
The William B. Bates Distinguished Chair of Law, Olivas is Director of the Institute of Higher Education Law & Governance at the Law Center.
