Bird BabiesApril 9, 2012 -- After a spirited online competition Friday, the Law Center’s official nesting Mourning Dove was named Hortense and her two squabs were dubbed Law and Order. Robin Huff, MPS suite secretary, won a coveted chocolate Easter egg for naming the mom after Hortense Sparks Malsch Ward, a Texas legal pioneer.  Barbara Stalder of the civil practice clinic claimed the second chocolate egg for the more straightforward names of the two babies. Hortense took up residence atop a light fixture in TU II between the Multi Purpose Suite and the Hendricks Heritage Room, a fine perch to keep an eye on Law Center comings and goings both inside and out. Professor Peter Linzer noted the arrival of mom and her brood and Professor Stephen Zamora assumed the role of promoter and judge of the “Name the Birds” contest.
