At the Intersection of Islamic and Texas family law
Cultural and religious differences that can arise when Islamic law and Texas family law collide will be sorted out by a distinguished panel on Friday, Sept. 25, in a Law Center seminar sponsored by the ACLU Foundation of Texas. Prof. Asifa Quraishi, of the University of Wisconsin, Haris Tarin, director of Community Development, Muslim Public Affairs Council, Washington, DC, and Abed Awad, an attorney practicing in the New Jersey/New York area, will examine the “Intersection of Islamic Law and Texas Family Law.” Three local attorneys, Sandra Peake ‘82, Abdul-Hakim Ahmed and Adib Eghterafi will participate in a panel discussion in the second half of the program. The 3-credit hour CLE seminar costs $50 for attorneys; free for Law Center students. The program will be in room 109 BLB from 2-5 p.m. with a reception to follow.
