H1N1 flu outbreak raises legal concerns
Patricia Gray, director of research at the Law Center’s Health Law & Policy Institute, discusses the legal and ethical issues of medical triage – who will live and who will die – in the event of a flu pandemic. The subject was part of a symposium exploring aspects of the current H1N1 flu outbreak. The conference, “H1N1 Flu Summit II: A Follow-up,” explored the federal emergency PREP act; issues affecting employers; and liability concerns for pharmacists. Participants included Craig Conway (left) and Cynthia Marietta, members of the Institute’s research faculty, and Gary Cacciatore, adjunct professor for Food and Drug Law. The Institute conducted a highly successful swine flu summit in April.
