International Environmental Law and the Global South / edited by Shawkat Alam, Sumudu Atapattu, Carmen G. Gonzalez, and Jona Razzaque. Cambridge University Press, 2017.

K3585.I5775 2015

Edited by visiting Professor Carmen Gonzalez, International Environmental Law and the Global South examines both the historical origins of the North-South divide in European colonialism as well as its contemporary manifestations in a range of issues including food justice, energy justice, indigenous rights, trade, investment, extractive industries, human rights, land grabs, hazardous waste, and climate change. Born out of the recognition that global inequality and profligate consumerism present threats to a sustainable planet, this book makes a unique contribution to international environmental law by emphasizing the priorities and perspectives of the global South.

Blake Hudson. Constitutions and the Commons: The Impact of Federal Governance on Local, National, and Global Resource Management. RFF Press, 2014.

KF5505.H83 2014

Authored by Professor Blake Hudson, Constitutions and the Commons looks at a critical but little examined issue of the degree to which the federal constitution of a nation contributes toward or limits the ability of the national government to manage its domestic natural resources. Furthermore it considers how far the constitution facilitates the binding of constituent states, provinces or subnational units to honor the conditions of international environmental treaties. The book focuses on the U.S., and includes detailed coverage of other nations such as Australia, Brazil, India, and Russia.
