Kermit L. Hall, Melvin I. Urofsky. New York Times v. Sullivan : civil rights, libel law, and the free press. University Press of Kansas, c2011.

KF228.N4H35 2011

Illuminating a classic case from the turbulent civil rights era of the 1960s, this book provides a compact and highly readable updating of one of the most memorable decisions in the Supreme Court’s canon.  The authors place a new emphasis on this iconic case; rather than championing freedom of the press, the authors here provide a stronger focus on civil rights and southern legal culture. They convey to readers the urgency of the civil rights movement and the vitriolic anger it inspired in the Deep South, and their insights place this landmark case within a new and enlightening frame.

Benn McGrady. Trade and public health : the WTO, tobacco, alcohol, and diet. Cambridge University Press, 2011.

K4610.M39 2011

Non-communicable diseases, associated with risk factors such as tobacco consumption, poor diet and alcohol use, represent a growing health burden around the world. The seriousness of non-communicable diseases is reflected in the adoption of several international instruments.  In line with these instruments, states are beginning to use measures such as taxes, restrictions on marketing, product regulation and labeling measures for public health purposes.  This book examines the extent to which the law of the World Trade Organization restricts domestic implementation of these types of measures.
