The art of advocacy in international arbitration / edited by Doak Bishop, Edward G. Kehoe. 2nd ed. JurisNet, c2010.

K2400.A78 2010

Jim Lawrence, Director of the Blakely Advocacy Institute, co-authored the chapter “Psychological Dynamics in International Arbitration Advocacy,” which begins on page 69.

This book provides insight into the approach, conduct, style, and techniques that have proven most effective for international arbitration.  It describes how to properly perform tasks such as document review, witness interviews, legal research, strategizing, and developing compelling written and oral presentations.  This new edition focuses on addressing each functional aspect of an international arbitration, but also preserves a section on the cultural differences in arbitral advocacy.

Anna O. Law. The immigration battle in American courts. Cambridge University Press, 2010.

KF4819.L39 2010

This book assesses the role of the federal judiciary in immigration and the institutional evolution of the Supreme Court and the US Courts of Appeals. The author argues that by the turn of the century, a division of labor had developed between the two courts whereby the Courts of Appeals retained their original function as error-correction courts, while the Supreme Court was reserved for the most important policy and political questions.  The book goes on to explore the consequences of this division for immigrant litigants.
