Featured Resource List

David R. Dow. The autobiography of an execution. Twelve, 2010.

KF373.D635A3 2010

This book is a deeply personal story about justice, death penalty, and a lawyer’s life.  As a lawyer, the author David R. Dow has represented over 100 death row cases. Many of his clients have died. Most were guilty. Some might have been innocent. It is a chronicle of a life lived at paradoxical extremes: Witnessing executions and then coming home to the loving embrace of his wife and young son, who inquire about his day. Waging moral battles on behalf of people who have committed abhorrent crimes. Fighting for life in America’s death penalty capital, within a criminal justice system full of indifferent and ineffectual judges. Racing against time on behalf of clients who have no more time.

Electricity restructuring : the Texas story / edited by L. Lynne Kiesling and Andrew N. Kleit. National Book Network, c2009.

HD9685.U6T437 2009

Professor Darren Bush contributed the chapter “Why does ERCOT have only one regulator” to this book.

This book explores how Texas's groundbreaking program of electricity restructuring has become a model for truly competitive energy markets in the United States. The authors contend that restructuring in Texas has been successful because the industry is free from federal oversight within the state; because new investments in electricity supply have been encouraged to insure that increased demand for power is met; because restructuring has spurred the growth of more efficient electricity technologies and business models; because the markets integrate wholesale and retail competition; and because the operation of the transmission grid has been changed to maximize its efficiency.
