This book discusses how the increased longevity of Americans has led to spiraling costs in health care. These expenses have increased the number of people without health insurance. Former Surgeon General Julius Richmond and health economist Rashi Fein cover the health care dilemma that has worsened considerably since the 1960s. They point to the demand for profits as the culprit behind the problem and propose a government sponsored universal health care program as the solution.

Richard A. Posner who sits on the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Seventh Circuit, examines problems that have arisen in the post-9/11 era as constitutional rights have clashed with national security. Posner responds to controversial issues such as the ability of the government to eavesdrop on phone calls, the FBI’s power to access library patron records, and the use of military tribunals for terrorist suspects. His analysis is based on his belief that the infringement on personal freedom must be balanced against the increased security that such measures provide.
