Borrowing
Privileges
A
valid UH Temporary Cougar 1Card must be presented
to borrow material. Cougar 1Cards are issued to
Adjunct Faculty by Melissa Fleet-Wilkie (mfleet@central.uh.edu).
Cougar
1Cards are not transferable. The Adjunct Faculty
member must be present to check-out materials.
Reserve Materials
Reserve
materials include all materials housed behind the
Circulation desk. These materials encompass a variety
of formats and are grouped either by format, nature
of use, or LC classification. Reserve status is
indicated in the book record in the online catalog.
Reserve
materials may be requested for use from the Circulation
Staff. The Circulation Staff will retrieve requested
material for Adjunct Faculty to use at the desk
or to check out.
-
Course/Professor Reserve - Materials may be placed
on Reserve by Adjunct Faculty for the use of their
classes. These materials may be supplied by the
faculty member or the library or obtained by ILL
request. All requests should be sent to Suzanne
Gordon Martin, the library's Head of Circulation,
at sgmartin@central.uh.edu
with the following information: (a) faculty name
and statement of adjunct status, (b) titles of
articles/books, and (c) course number and name.
All materials will be kept on course reserve for
the semester only. Any personal material submitted
by the faculty will be returned at the end of
the semester. Articles not owned by the library
may be obtained through ILL. Books not owned by
the library should be provided by the requesting
professor. Photocopied materials are housed in
a filling cabinet in alphabetical order by the
faculty member’s last name.
- Regular
Reserve - This category includes everything that
has Reserve status on a permanent basis and consists
of items in high demand, such as Hornbooks and
Restatements, or expensive materials that need
extra security. They are primarily shelved in
call number order, although exceptions are made
for some unclassified materials. This category
also includes the library’s collections
of videos and DVDs.
Fines
The
fine policy of the O’Quinn Law Library is:
Two
week circulating materials, $0.50 per day per item
up to $10.00. After a $10.00 limit has been assessed,
the patron will be required to pay for the book
plus a $15.00 processing fee.
Four
hour materials, $0.50 per hour up to $4.00 the first
day. Then, $2.00 per day until a $10.00 maximum
is reached.
A
receipt is issued whenever a fine is paid.
Interlibrary
Loan (ILL)
The
library will obtain ILL materials related to coursework.
Loan periods vary, as they are determined by the
lending library. The majority of lending libraries
have a loan period of approximately a month. Professors
may submit ILL requests via email (hboyce@central.uh.edu)
or via the online request form (http://www.law.uh.edu/libraries/ILL.html).
Please
note that ILL requests may take several weeks to
complete. Requests should be placed in advance of
need to insure the materials arrive in a timely
manner. Faculty will be notified when the materials
arrive; ILL materials should be retrieved and returned
at the circulation desk.
Reference,
Instruction, Lexis, and Westlaw
The
library’s reference department provides all
adjuncts with research and instructional support
for their courses. Instruction (e.g. Health Law
Research) can be provided within the allotted class
time, or can be offered as a supplemental session
in the library’s Computer Legal Instruction
Classroom (CLIC).
The
library also handles the distribution of Lexis and
Westlaw passwords. Requests should be directed to
Mon Yin Lung (mlung@central.uh.edu).
Use of these passwords is restricted to course purposes
only.
All
research or instructional support requests should
be communicated to Mon Yin Lung for handling and
assignment.
Tours
Although
the library does provide tours to all 1Ls at the
beginning of the fall semester, the staff realizes
that each course may have special tour needs. To
accommodate these needs, the public services department
offers customized tours. Please contact
Helen Boyce (hboyce@central.uh.edu)
to arrange a tour for a class.
