Research Assistant Needed - Professor Jacqueline Weaver (posted 10/01/2017)

I have received a research grant from Rocky Mountain Mineral Law Foundation for an RA to help me with a new edition of the casebook, Intl Petroleum Transactions. I am responsible for two chapters: Chapter 1 Overview of the Intl Petroleum Industry, and Chapter 7 Sustainable Development. The latter chapter covers a broad scope of issues in the environmental and human rights areas, such as the use of Codes of Conduct to govern industry practices; litigation and its limits; oil spills; offshore safety; decommissioning; and business and human rights. Chapter 1 will be substantially revised to cover essential background, such as the key players in the intl petroleum industry, geology and reserves, energy outlooks (especially in an age of climate change policies).

If interested in applying for this position, please send me a CV/resume and a brief statement that includes:

1. Whether you have had, or are currently enrolled in, the Intl Petroleum Transaction course. Tell me what related courses you may have had in energy, environmental and resources law.

2. Any business or other related experience in the intl petroleum industry or doing legal research.

3. Your GPA and any grades on papers that you have written that can show the extent of your research skills. Much of the information used in the book does not derive from U.S. cases, but from reports of many intl organizations and commissions.

JDs and LLMs are invited to apply, including part-time students. The hours are flexible, but it is important to meet deadlines that we have mutually agreed on. You will be paid through the UHLC Business office at the rate of $15/hour.

I am a professor emeritus at the law center, retiring last year. We can find mutually convenient places to meet, and I am at the law center once a week. Much of the work can be conducted via email drafts and meeting.

Jacqueline L. Weaver
A.A. White Professor of Law Emeritus
