Guidelines for Requesting Social Work Services

1.  The attorney must represent the child in either an abuse and neglect case, delinquency matter or school proceeding.

2.  A Referral for Social Work Services Form must be filled out when requesting services.

3.  The Center will inform the attorney within two working days of receipts of the request for services whether the Center will be able to assist on the case.

4.  In order for the social worker to assist on any cases and maintain attorney-client confidentiality, a contract must be signed between the attorney and the Southwest Juvenile Defender Center.

5.  Upon acceptance of the case, the attorney will provide the client contact information and any other necessary information to the social worker.

6.  For home studies or progress updates for the court, the attorney will give the social worker 14 days notice.  This allows the attorney to file the report with the court within the proper time frame.

7.  Individual therapy will not be provided for the client, but referrals to therapists or treatment programs can be provided.
