Guidelines for Clothing, Formula, Toys & Books Bank

  1. The items are available for use by juveniles that are involved in the legal system.
  2. For children who are removed from the home, those who are in kinship placements will have a higher priority for receipt of items than others.
  3. In order to receive formula the foster family will need to show that they cannot receive enough assistance to cover their needs.
  4. Formula will be given to families once a month.
  5. If the request is for clothing for a child to wear to court then the staff of SWJDC will try to arrange a time with the child’s attorney to get the clothing to the attorney or family member of the child.
  6. The child’s attorney should fill out a needs form for the family (place link here).  The attorney should ensure that they leave a correct phone number for the child or the child’s care giver, so SWJDC can contact the family to set up an appointment to deliver the items.
  7. When a child grows out of the clothing, toys, or books the items should be returned to the SWJDC bank in order for other families to benefit from use of the items.

The original contributions were received from a baby shower that Houston Association of Counsel for Children had to benefit children within the foster care system.  The event will be held yearly at the law school, although the Center will accept donations at other times.  If you would like to make a donation or volunteer for the Bank, please contact Malikah Marrus at mmarrus@uh.edu  or 713-743-1385.
