SPONSORED SCHOLARSHIP GRANTS FOR THE LEGAL ACADEMY
The IPIL Sponsored Scholarship Grants (SSG) Program at the University of Houston Law Center is designed to facilitate newly-authored scholarship on Intellectual Property & Information Law (IPIL) within the legal academy.
As one of the nation’s leading programs for the study of intellectual property and information law, the IPIL Institute at the University of Houston Law Center is pleased to announce a new initiative to support the creation and dissemination of quality scholarship in its field.
The IPIL SSG program provides grants for IPIL‑related scholarship from tenured or tenure-track professors at AALS member and fee-paid law schools. The program is made possible by the remarkably generous support of the Institute’s contributors and supporters, most of whom are practitioners and organizations in Houston, a city with one of the most sophisticated intellectual property bars in the world.
Grant amounts may change from year to year, but are typically in the mid to high four‑figure range, paid upon submitting the final copy, with one grant selection anticipated approximately each year. Grants will not be awarded to prior recipients. All articles must be of publishable quality, relate to IPIL subject matter, and total at least 20,000 words, inclusive of footnotes.
Typically, there will also be an opportunity to present the article at an IPIL event or program, either at the Law Center in Houston, or at some other location or venue, with the trip funded by the IPIL Institute.
To apply for a grant, please submit the following:
- statement of interest and qualification status
- detailed résumé or curriculum vitae
- article proposal, including a proposed table of contents and an article preview between 500 and 750 words (with minimal footnoting), focusing on the article’s claim or perspective, and the supporting rationale
- copies of selected prior articles
All items should be provided electronically, as attachments in Adobe Acrobat PDF format, in a single submittal emailed to: ssgpacademyipil@uh.edu
Application materials will be treated in confidence.
