Professor Simpson earned her B.A. in French and International Development Theory (cum laude) at Washington University in St. Louis, Missouri in 1988. She obtained her J.D. (cum laude) from the University of Houston Law Center in 1994. While at the Law Center, Professor Simpson received the award for Best Speaker in the John Black Moot Court Competition and also participated in multiple interscholastic moot court competitions. She was admitted to the Texas Bar in 1994. From 1994 to 1997, Professor Simpson was an associate at Meyer, Orlando & Evans, P.C. She transitioned to the First Court of Appeals of Texas in early 1997, serving there as a staff attorney for more than 13 years.
