Online Application for Judicial Internship

IMPORTANT NOTE:  ANY STUDENT WHO WILL BE DOING HIS/HER FIRST-EVER JUDICIAL INTERNSHIP or EXTERNSHIP WERE TO HAVE PARTICIPATED IN  AN ORIENTATION WHICH WAS HELD TWICE ON CAMPUS (on 3/7/13 and 4/18/13).  IF YOU WISH TO RECEIVE ACADEMIC CREDIT FOR YOUR  IN/EXTERNSHIP BUT DID NOT ATTEND (AND SIGN IN) AT ONE OF THESE ORIENTATIONS, YOU WILL NEED TO MAKE IT UP. 

HOW TO MAKE UP MISSING THE ORIENTATION

BEGINNING THURSDAY, 4/25/13, COME TO THE BLAKELY ADVOCACY SUITE TO PICK UP A PACKET FROM THE RECEPTIONIST.  (YOU WILL NEED TO SIGN FOR THE PACKET.)  THE PACKET WILL CONTAIN READING MATERIALS AND A MULTIPLE CHOICE QUIZ BASED ON THE READINGS.  ONCE YOU HAVE COMPLETED THE QUIZ, YOU MUST RETURN IT TO THE BLAKELY ADVOCACY SUITE'S RECEPTIONIST.  (STUDENTS MUST EARN A PASSING SCORE AS WILL BE INDICATED ON THE QUIZ IN ORDER TO SUCCESSFULLY COMPLETE THIS REQUIRMENT.)

 YOU MUST COMPLETE THIS BY THURSDAY, MAY 30, 2013.

**********NOTE:  THE PROCEDURE LISTED ABOVE IS REQUIRED TO REMAIN IN THE SUMMER PROGRAM AND RECEIVE ACADEMIC CREDIT.**********

 

Please fill out the brief information below and your information will automatically be e-mailed to our offices.  If you are approved to participate in the program, the faculty instructor will email the Office of Student Services to have you enrolled in the appropriate courses, and you will receive a copy of this email.  The faculty instructor will contact you directly via email if your application is not approved for some reason.

Please note that the minimum GPA required for this program is a 2.33, and that STUDENTS DO NOT ENROLL THEMSELVES IN THESE CLASSES.  THE FACULTY INSTRUCTOR WILL ENROLL YOU ONCE/IF YOUR APPLICATION IS APPROVED. CHECK YOUR SCHEDULE TO MAKE SURE YOUR IN/EXTERNSHIP HAS BEEN ADDED.  IF LATER YOU DECIDE TO DROP YOUR IN/EXTERNSHIP, PLEASE CONTACT BOTH PROF. BONADERO AND DERRICK GABRIEL.  Lastly, be sure you don't have a schedule conflict with the Thursday evening classroom component of JP or PIW, and be sure to pay by the official deadline so you're not dropped from the program.

Do you understand that you must have the approval of faculty supervisor Erma Bonadero, and the placement supervisor before beginning your placement?
 
Do you understand you cannot receive both payment (including fellowships) and academic credit for your internship or externship? 
 
Do you understand you must complete a minimum number of 180 hours (3 credit hours) or 240 hours (4 credit hours) at the placement to receive credit, and that failure to complete your hours in time will result in an Incomplete (and an eventual UNSATISFACTORY if not completed within one year)?   
 
Do you understand that the internship is currently graded credit/no credit (Satisfactory/Unsatisfactory), the one-credit course is graded, and that failure/no credit in either class will result in failure/no credit in both classes?  
 
Do you understand that if you are seeking academic credit for an internship, you must also enroll in the accompanying one-credit, graded course (Judicial Process for internships) unless an exception applies?
 

Do you understand that the Judicial Process course is graded on a mandatory curve in accordance with UHLC policy, and that this is not subject to negotiation with the faculty instructor?      

 
Do you understand that you may participate in only one internship/externship or clinic per semester, with the exception of the summer semester when students may participate in two internships/externships for credit?
 
While the Judicial Internship Faculty Supervisor can provide placement contact information, it is up to each student to contact the judge's chambers to apply and make arrangements for their internship prior to applying for the course.
