CLE

A NOTE TO THE ALUMNI AND FRIENDS OF THE LAW CENTER
Proper stewardship of the Law Center demands that we stay in step with the rapidly shifting needs of the legal industry. Over the past decade, the marketplace for continuing legal education (CLE) programs has changed dramatically – and we are now responding to these realities.
Beginning with the start of our Fall Semester, we are refocusing our CLE program and targeting a smaller number of specialized courses, including courses on intellectual property, mediation and other topics within the core specialties of the Law Center. Rather than replicate the many regional and national CLE programs that offer a broad array of general courses, we are choosing a different path: one that will see the Law Center offer high-quality courses geared primarily toward advanced areas of law.
For decades, our CLE department has served thousands of attorneys with large-scale sessions. That audience is served today by numerous providers, and it makes smart business and academic sense for the Law Center to now pursue a more specialized niche.
The newly revamped website of the Law Center offers a great way to review upcoming classes and special events that offer CLE credit. I encourage you to visit www.law.uh.edu and select the event calendar under “News and Events.” By clicking “CLE,” you can quickly identify options that suit your special interests and available dates.
Our CLE department under the direction of Prof. David Crump, the late Betty Bradley, and the other managers of the program produced an excellent product for many years, and their efforts deserve the true thanks of the Law Center community and of the state and national bars.
I am confident that our refocused CLE programs will find a receptive audience within the legal community, and especially among Law Center alumni.
