Networking Events
Each year, CDO hosts events that foster a networking environment for students and employers. Additionally, the Houston and greater legal community welcome students to participate in their programs which also provide the opportunity to interact with attorneys. Students are encouraged to take advantage of these events/organizations which include:
American Bar Association
The American Bar Association (ABA) is a national representative of the legal profession. You can find various student resources and opportunities to get involved on their site.

Bar Association
The Houston Bar Association (HBA) is a nonprofit
professional organization for attorneys. The organization
sponsors education, professional development, and
service programs for both the legal profession and
the community. Students should consider attending
the monthly section meeting for the area of law
of most interest.

Intellectual Property Law Organization
The Houston Intellectual Property Law Organization
(HIPLA) is a professional organization for attorneys
a focus in Intellectual Property. The organization
offers various resources, including a standing invitation
for UH IPSO members to attend their monthly lunch.

Young Lawyers Association
The Houston Young Lawyers Association (HYLA) was
founded give "the young lawyers an opportunity
to better know one another and to informally exchange
ideas regarding the profession." Students
network through supporting/volunteering for HYLA’s
many service projects.
Minority Students Reception
Hosted by the University of Houston Law Center and
several student organizations. Employers from
around the city network with students about their
firms and/or business. A minority student
resume book is provided to attending employers.
Public Interest Table Talk
Hosted by the University of Houston Law Center in
co-sponsorship with PILO, this event raises awareness
of the demanding, yet highly satisfying careers
in public service. Local government and non-profit
attorneys visit informally with students on a Friday

Texas Young
Lawyers Association
Texas Young Lawyers Association (TYLA) is a department of the State Bar of Texas. All licensed Texas Lawyers who are 36 years old or younger or who are in their first three years of licensure, regardless of age, are automatically members of TYLA. Law students can also join. TYLA facilitates the administration of justice, fosters respect for the law, and advances the role of the legal profession in serving the public.
