Office of Career Development
Good Standing Policy
To have access to the Career Development Office (CDO) resources and services, students must remain in good standing with the office. The purpose of this policy is to ensure the University of Houston Law Center and our students maintain positive relationships with prospective employers.
Examples of events/behaviors that may jeopardize a student’s good standing with the CDO include:
1) Missed interviews either at a job fair or during on-campus interviews. Once a student has accepted an interview and the employer receives the schedule, cancellations are not permitted. A student who learns of an emergency preventing their attendance at an interview must notify the CDO immediately (even if the job fair is coordinated by another organization) and follow up with a letter of apology to the interviewer. The letter must be brought to the Assistant Dean of Career Development within 48 hours of the missed interview for review and mailing by the office. Once the student has complied with delivery of a professional quality letter, he or she will be returned to good standing with the CDO.
2) Misrepresentation of information provided to employers, the CDO, the Law Center, or any other party affiliated with the Law Center. In addition to losing the privileges of the CDO, these students may also be subject to disciplinary action by the Dean of Students and/or by the Dean of the Law Center.
The CDO will consider matters impacting student and school relationships with employers on a case by case basis. Students will be notified of a change in their status by phone or email.
