Preparing for Law School

Admitted students commonly ask us how to best prepare for the first year of law school. Law school will be different from any academic endeavor you have faced, and the best way to be successful is to come into the fall semester with an understanding of what to expect. There are several fine books on the market, and we have included a list of some recommended titles below. These readings are optional, but past incoming students have found that reading one or two of the books was helpful.

KaplanPMBR is offering a new law school prep course FREE for all incoming UH Law Center 1Ls.  The Law School Edge is a 2-day overview of what to expect and how to successfully navigate your first year of law school.  Meet fellow pre-1Ls, get an advanced preview of what to expect in your 1st year classes and learn tips and strategies for how to excel from day one.  The course will take place over 2 days between 9AM - 5PM on August 8 - 9, 2009 in Houston.  University of Houston incoming 1L students should call 1-800-523-0777 to enroll or to receive additional information.  You will need the promo code, which was sent via email or can be obtained by calling our office at 713-743-2280.

UHLC is awarding ten full scholarships to attend Law Preview, a week-long program that provides an overview of law school study for entering law students. UHLC students who are not selected for a scholarship are eligible for a $100 discount off any 5- or 6-day Law Preview program. When you register make sure that you choose the UHLC discount. This discount is only available to those students who will be enrolling at UHLC or one of the other partner law schools. See www.lawpreview.com for details. Enrollment in Law Preview is completely optional. We are making you aware of it because students regularly ask about programs like this one, and students who have enrolled in this program in the past have found it helpful in making the transition to law school.
