About UHLC

Welcome to the University of Houston Law Center!
In these economic times, it’s more important than ever for prospective law students to carefully weigh the quality of their education against the cost of acquiring it. Viewed through this critical lens, the University of Houston Law Center easily stands out as one of the best values in legal education today.
We are a Tier 1 law school in the much-reviewed rankings compiled by U.S. News & World Report, where we currently tie at No. 59, and we are one of only eight public law schools in the nation with multiple “Top 10” specialty programs.
We are distinguished not only by academic excellence but also by our reasonable cost of tuition – which remains among the lowest of any U.S. law school. Here is a snapshot of tuition at the Law Center for Fall 2008 – Spring 2009:
| Texas Residents | Non-Residents | |
| Full-time (30 hours) Tuition & Fees | $ 18,477 | $ 25,977 |
| Part-time (26 hours) Tuition & Fees | $ 17,960 | $ 24,486 |
By comparison, here are the comparable costs* of attending four other leading law schools in Texas:
| Texas Residents | Non-Residents | |
| University of Texas at Austin | $23,998 | $40,397 |
| Baylor University | $35,985 | $35,985 |
| Southern Methodist University | $34,676 | $34,676 |
| South Texas College of Law | $24,990 | $24,990 |
* Note: Tuition and fees are for the 2008-09 academic year at the Law Center and other law schools and are subject to change. Data for comparative purposes have been drawn from websites maintained by various schools, and should be verified with each institution.
It’s rare when an institution of the highest quality also stands out for its relatively low cost. Excellence and value are the hallmarks of our school – and Dean Ray Nimmer encourages prospective students to investigate all of the advantages that make the Law Center what it is: an unparalleled value in legal education, and a great place to launch a career in law.
