announces
Children and the Law After the Katrina Disaster: An Interdisciplinary Conference on Young Evacuees
Friday, April 20, 2007
University of Houston Law Center
Krost Hall
In addition to the 1300 lives that
were lost, the Katrina disaster displaced over one
million people from Louisiana, Mississippi and Alabama.
Among them were hundreds of thousands of children.
As a vulnerable population, children were subject
to special difficulties. Over a year later, daunting
problems persist for children. This day-long conference
focusing specifically on the needs of children will
feature panel presentations on issues relating to
education rebuilding and reform, juvenile justice
and foster care, and implications from empirical
data relating to the disaster survivors.
