University of Houston Law Center Job Fairs

Public Interest Law Career Fair:

  • Date: February 6, 2009
  • Deadline: Material submission is usually in December (over the semester break)
  • Where: Held at the University of Texas School of Law School
  • Cost: Transportation to Austin

Hosted by the University of Texas for public interest (non-profit and government) employers from around the nation. 1Ls, 2Ls, and 3Ls seek summer internships and fellowships.

Houston Bar Association 1L Minority Recruitment Program:

  • Date: usually January/February
  • Deadline: Varies from employer to employer
  • Where:  Held at various employers’ offices in Texas (primarily Houston)
  • Cost: Not applicable

HBA will come on campus for an information session to explain how the recruitment program works. Employers in Texas interview 1L’s only for summer associate positions.  All 1L’s may participate regardless of race, gender, nationality, etc.

Texas Off-Campus Recruitment Program:

  • Date: March 6, 2009
  • Deadline: TBA
  • Where: Held at South Texas College of Law
  • Cost: Transportation to South Texas Law School and parking

Nine Texas Law Schools partner with Texas Young Lawyers Association (TYLA) for this fair held at South Texas College of Law in Houston, Texas. Smaller regional employers interview 1Ls and 2Ls for summer associate positions and 3Ls for permanent attorney positions.

This event is open to 3Ls, recent graduates, and licensed attorneys admitted to the Florida bar or the bar in another state, preferably with criminal practice experience, interested in a law career in public service. 

National Black Prosecutors Association Annual Job Fair:

Open to law students, recent graduates, and practicing attorneys. Applicants can meet and interview with prospective prosecutorial employers at the local, state, and federal levels.

Chicago Patent Law Interview Program:

Hosted by Loyola University in Chicago, Illinois. Employers from across the country interview 2Ls interested in intellectual property law (IP) for summer associate positions. A must attend for students interested in Patent Law.

Each year, more than 40 law firms and legal services companies that work with DuPont interview selected students at regional DuPont Legal Minority Job Fairs.  Student applications are submitted directly to the job fair committee.  Participation is by invitation only. The Equal Justice Works Career Fair and Conference is held each year in Washington, D.C. This is the largest national career fair for public interest law.

AIPLA (American Intellectual Property Law Association) Annual Meeting and Job Fair:

Open to student members and graduates who have joined before August 31.  This is an excellent opportunity to interview for summer and full-time positions in intellectual property.
